What could be more wonderful for cello lovers than a solo concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns? The answer is simple: two cello concertos written by the grand seigneur of French music! Sol Gabetta feels exactly the same way and is bringing both masterpieces to Hamburg without further ado. The star cellist has a particularly close relationship with Saint-Saëns anyway: she made her orchestral debut with his famous A minor concerto. On stage, the composer has been one of her most faithful companions ever since – and she one of his most convincing advocates. But both of his cello concertos in a single evening: that’s not something one hears from her every day either. Gabetta is convinced that Saint-Saëns challenged cellists to »do something special: by that I don’t mean something completely crazy that stands out from everything else, but something magical«. Something magical? With Gabetta, it’s guaranteed.
