The old St. Pauli still shines through in this pub. The Silbersack has determined St. Pauli's pub life since 1949.
After the pub almost had to close a few years ago due to the death of its landlady Erna Thomsen, initiatives consisting of many St. Paulians succeeded in saving the Silbersack for today. Thus, the people of Hamburg have preserved a true original, free of trends and tawdry design frills. Today's operator Dominik remains loyal to Erna with all his heart. Dominik didn't even need the Saviors' announcement that nothing should change here. The music comes from the jukebox, in the hand an honest tuber or immediately the gentleman's deck. And, of course, smoking is also allowed here. This is where tour guides meet their guests, other tourists in search of old sea dogs, punks or whatever else the neighborhood has to offer. In the end, everyone sings together "on the Reeperbahn at half past twelve at night". The fact that Hans Albers was a regular guest here in Erna's day and picked up a life tip or two from Erna should not be concealed.
