BioKonditorei Eichel

At the organic patisserie BioKonditorei Eichel in Hamburg Eimsbüttel you will find a wide range of special delicacies such as pear-cinnamon-curd-cheese gateau, apple cake with blackcurrants or buckwheat-carrot cake and dark, delicious chocolate-spelt pancakes.

Christof Eichel, owner and head pastry chef at the Biokonditorei Eichel, is a man with clear principles: he uses only organic ingredients – and has been doing since 2005 – and does without unnecessary additives which would artificially accelerate the production process of his cakes and gateaux. His creed: “Our recipes are only successful when we couldn’t leave out any more ingredients.” In addition, the patisserie offers a very large selection of vegan and gluten-free goods for those with food allergies.

One glance at the large glass display case that dominates the cosy café with its grass-green walls makes clear that doing without some additives does not mean you have to forgo enjoyment: there is a wide range of special delicacies such as pear-cinnamon-curd-cheese gateau, apple cake with blackcurrants or buckwheat-carrot cake and dark, delicious chocolate-spelt pancakes.

In addition to the wide selection of cake and gateaux, there are also hand-made chocolates – refined with hazelnuts, candied orange peel and other goodies.

The customers also belie traditional prejudice of all things organic: instead of grumpy health-food-store disciples, you will find a colourful mix of guests, both young and old, serious and hedonist, neighbours, tourists and new residents. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. If you like, you can dine in the cosy café itself or outside on comfortable garden furniture during the summer. But of course, you can also take everything to go for your Sunday coffee.

By the way: With advance booking, Christof Eichel will bake premium-class cakes for festive occasions, such as multi-tiered wedding cakes, heart-shaped Black Forest Gateau or cakes with marzipan roses.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Eimsbüttel & Eppendorf

Here, one can find magnificent old building façades, local and exquisite restaurants as well as fancy boutiques and owner-operated shops. While Eppendorf is rather fancy, one can feel the hanseatic serenity in Eimsbüttel. Both districts offer much green and water and are hence with good reason very popular neighbourhoods in Hamburg.
