The "Metropolis" has not only found its place in Hamburg's cultural landscape, but also a new home. Original versions, silent movies with piano support and more can now be seen in the Neustadt.
Anyone considering a visit to the Hamburg State Opera could also feel at home in the Metropolis cinema. The arthouse cinema in the small Theaterstraße next to the Staatsoper does justice to the high expectations of the audience next door. With its upper tier, the cinema hall resembles a theatre.
The programme
The programme is quite diverse: from 50s screwball comedies to old classics, thrillers, stiffs through queer film history, silent films and films with live music accompaniment.
