The classic among Hamburg's sporting events: On April 28, 2024, the 38th Haspa Marathon Hamburg will take place. Since the first edition in 1986, the euphoria has been unbroken, with over 18,000 amateur and world-class athletes taking part in the competition in the Hanseatic city every year.
But it is not only the starting field that is impressive in terms of numbers. Up to 700,00 people regularly cheer on the runners along the entire route. There is also a lot to see besides the athletes: From the start at the trade fair, the course connects virtually a "best of" the most beautiful sights of Hamburg. Via the Elbchaussee it goes to the fish market, past the Landungsbrücken to the HafenCity, from there via the Jungfernstieg along the Außenalster in the direction of the Stadtpark. The next and thus northernmost point of the route is in Ohlsdorf, from where it goes under loud motivational shouts to the Eppendorfer Baum, where the participants are almost traditionally expected by frenetic supporters. The last section consists of the western bank of the Alster and the district of Rotherbaum - with a view of the TV tower, the finish line is also reached at the Messe starting point.

You prefer pedaling instead of running? In addition to the marathon, Hamburg has another sporting highlight in the form of the EuroEyes Cyclassics Hamburg. And for those who would like to add a 3.8-kilometer swim course and a 180-kilometer bike course to their marathon run, the Hamburg Ironman awaits.
Germany's largest spring marathon measures a distance of 42.195 kilometers. All sufficiently trained persons or runners in good physical condition who are at least 18 years old in the year of the event are eligible to participate.
