Rita Payés and Lucía Fumero seem destined to make music together. The two Catalan artists met and became friends while studying in Barcelona, yet their shared music suggests a connection that runs deeper and feels almost timeless. Both bring an unmistakably authentic stage presence to their performances, and both work at the crossroads of jazz, bossa nova and Spanish musical traditions. Following guest appearances on each other’s albums and countless performances together, their eagerly anticipated duo album is due for release in spring 2026.
Whether Rita Payés coaxes sounds from her trombone or sings directly, the transition is almost seamless. »She sounds organic and warm, genuine and full of love. Music as an antidote to our times,« wrote Swiss broadcaster SRF of the 27-year-old musician. Her international breakthrough came at the latest with the album »De camino al camino«, followed by acclaimed appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Tiny Desk Concerts.
Lucía Fumero is likewise regarded as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary Spanish jazz. The pianist, singer and composer has already shared the stage with artists such as Salvador Sobral and Sílvia Pérez Cruz. »For me, creativity emerges wherever there are no boundaries. If things become too confined by style or form, I often stop liking the result,« says Fumero, who studied both classical and jazz piano.
