Delicately dreamy, exquisitely beautiful, and breathtakingly virtuosic: Camille Saint-Saëns’s Third Violin Concerto simply has it all. Just like star violinist Julia Fischer, who will be performing this magnificent work at the concert at the Elbphilharmonie. Saint-Saëns composed his Violin Concerto in 1880 for the legendary violinist Pablo de Sarasate. It captivates with enchanting melodies and a subtle, impressionistic interplay of timbres, which is naturally in the best of hands with a master of her craft such as Julia Fischer. But the framework provided by the Orchestre National de France for this solo highlight is also impressive. Hector Berlioz’s overture to his opera Béatrice et Bénédict forms the cheerful opening of the evening, which comes to a radiant conclusion with Antonín Dvořák’s delightful Symphony No. 8.
