Since his acclaimed debut at a ProArte concert in 2023, Lukas Sternath has been a regular guest here in Hamburg, where he has thrilled audiences with his finely nuanced and expressive playing. This year, his first concert in the Meisterpianisten series promises moments of pure musical joy as the audience listens to him perform works by Schubert and Liszt. For Lukas, it is important to always remain true to himself when playing the piano. Questions such as »who am I, when I perform?« and »what do I want to say?« continue to motivate and challenge him at each concert he plays. Born in Vienna, his life revolved around music from a very early age. He sang with the Vienna Boys’ Choir and was a conscientious and enthusiastic piano scholar, just like his fellow countryman Franz Schubert, who was also a gifted singer and pianist. It would be reasonable to assume that this is why Lukas loves Schubert’s music so much. Whatever the reason, he is certainly in good company. Liszt was also a great admirer, and after Schubert’s early death, the younger Franz wrote several spectacular transcriptions of his songs.
