There is a theory that music is a universal language. This evening’s concert provides serious proof that this is true. The programme brings together different cultures, periods and musical styles as we travel from the Scottish Highlands to Armenia and from there to Italy. Each work is deeply touching, although Arvo Pärt’s »My Heart’s in the Highlands«, the Armenian folksong »Dle Yaman« and Pergolesi’s »Stabat Mater« could hardly be more different. And yet, they all share fundamental elements such as quiet spirituality and emotional intensity, stories of homelands and unfamiliar places, feelings of loss and solace. The celebrated countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński, mezzo soprano Madison Nonoa and the Ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro will take the audience on an emotional exploration of light and darkness within the human soul. It promises to be an atmospheric, beautiful and intimate evening with two outstanding vocalists.
