The programme takes its inspiration from the protagonist of Virginia Woolf’s experimental novel. Orlando lives through a richly varied life spanning several centuries and ultimately even changes gender. Such a multifaceted source naturally calls for an equally wide-ranging adaptation. Nikolovska and Shibe therefore make transformation itself the guiding principle of an evening encompassing no fewer than eleven composers and six centuries of music.
The programme traces a path from the Baroque sounds of John Dowland and the Romantic sensibility of Franz Schubert to contemporary voices such as Thomas Adès, while also finding room for music by Bob Dylan. To do justice to the breadth of this repertoire, Sean Shibe performs on both classical and electric guitar, further expanding the sonic palette through electronic elements. An invitation to join a remarkable journey through the centuries.
