What sort of food actually ends up on people’s plates in other countries? And what dishes emerge when people cook together? The ‘Recipes from Around the World’ cookery workshop is all about cooking together and using food as an opportunity for cultural exchange.
Participants plan their menu together and prepare dishes from different countries – using fresh ingredients, right at the hob, and with plenty of opportunity to get involved. Whilst chopping, seasoning and cooking, conversations arise about eating habits, origins, and the differences and similarities between cultures.
In the process, participants discover new ingredients and flavours and gain an appreciation of just how diverse food can be across different cultures. Along the way, they pick up practical, easy-to-understand and everyday-relevant knowledge about nutrition. Food brings people together – and that is exactly what the “Recipes from Around the World” workshop is all about.
Through the “HipHop & Health – Move, Eat, Stay Fit” project, we’ve taken on this theme and launched this ongoing workshop. A community has already formed that meets regularly for these sessions, and we’d be delighted to welcome more interested people to join us.
