In 2027, to celebrate Beethoven’s anniversary, the audience can look forward to a particularly prestigious series of concerts. Star pianist Lang Lang and Andris Nelsons, Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Gewandhauskapellmeister, are inviting the listeners to join them for a festival of Beethoven’s music. In five concerts, they will perform all five Piano Concertos as well as symphonies by the great composer from Bonn. The cycle begins with a performance by the guest musicians from America and combines Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with Stravinsky’s »Le Sacre du Printemps«. Stravinsky‘s scandalous ballet music is a great showpiece for this acclaimed ensemble from Boston, as the orchestra has a special connection to him that originates from its Koussevitzky years. What is more, Stravinsky himself loved to have his works performed by the BSO.
