This concert by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra promises a musical journey to the Far North through a selection of works by Edvard Grieg. The orchestra has invited celebrated young pianist Alexander Malofeev and Hardanger fiddler Ragnhild Hemsing to perform the music of their home country. The programme offers an immersion into the vibrant and varied culture of Norway as Malofeev performs Grieg’s phenomenal Piano Concerto. As the musical story of Peer Gynt unfolds, a fantastic mythology of trolls, fairies and gods emerges almost as vividly as in the original poem by Grieg’s fellow Norwegian, Henrik Ibsen. In the hands of Hemsing and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Grieg’s music springs vividly to life. It is almost possible to imagine magical creatures of every shape and size flitting across the stage.
