Experience the guided bike tours on well-maintained city bikes, cruisers or mountain bikes – suitable for all ages. You stop wherever you like and get to know the people you meet along the way. You get some light exercise in the fresh air without too much effort. On the various bike tours, guests can get to know almost all of Hamburg’s sights up close. 

Bike hire for self-guided tours

In addition to the tours, city bikes, children’s bikes & seats, e-bikes, tandems & cargo bikes are also available for hire. These can be hired on a daily basis or for a short hire of four hours. Useful accessories, such as locks or bicycle helmets, are provided free of charge on request.

The classic among bike tours – the ‘Hamburg Compact Bike Tour’ – is a particularly popular circuit taking in the Outer Alster, the Town Hall, the Speicherstadt, HafenCity, the Landungsbrücken and St. Pauli.

The tour follows in the footsteps of the classic cityscape right up to the modernity of HafenCity. Cycling past the Town Hall, the Stock Exchange, historic Deichstrasse, canals and shopping streets, you’ll enjoy an entertaining, exciting and informative ride through the heart of the city.

Elbe suburbs to Blankenese (approx. 4 hours)

Even as a Hamburg local, the breathtaking view of the Elbe and the harbour never fails to impress! Experience a wealth of sights, from the ‘String of Pearls’ along Große Elbstraße, past pilot houses, beaches, parks, steep banks with a magnificent harbour panorama, huge ships, the Airbus factory, the ‘Staircase Quarter’ in Blankenese, white country houses, villas, farmland and exotic scenery, right through to sailing yachts and riverside promenades. 

Around the Outer Alster (approx. 3 hours)

The tour leads from Dammtor to Pöseldorf-Rotherbaum, past consulates, residences, the parks of Harvestehude, Krugkoppel, Fernsicht, Leinpfad, Stadtpark with its planetarium and Stadtparksee, Liebesinsel, Goldbekufer, Uhlenhorst, the Blue Mosque and the unique distant view of the skyline of Hamburg’s Old and New Town. Passing Feenteich, Schwanenwijk and the Mundsburger Bridge, the tour concludes on the Kennedy Bridge with a unique view of the Outer and Inner Alster. 

A cycle tour through the city of contrasts (approx. 3 hours)

This cycle tour takes you through the neighbourhoods of high society as well as districts with an alternative scene, artists’ quarters and a turbulent history. Starting from Sternschanze, the route takes you through historic neighbourhoods, past grassroots housing projects and through the Schanzenviertel with its alternative cultural offerings. The tour continues with impressive views of the Elbe along Hafenstraße in St. Pauli, through the Portuguese Quarter and into Neustadt. Stops such as the artists’ cooperative ‘Komm in die Gänge’, the 1920s office buildings including the Chilehaus, and the multicultural St. Georg district showcase Hamburg’s contrasts in a particularly striking way. The tour concludes with the Binnenalster, the Kennedy Bridge, views of the Außenalster, traditional rowing clubs and Pöseldorf.

Through the eras of the Port of Hamburg (approx. 3 hours)

Experience a varied tour through historic working-class neighbourhoods, the Neustadt district, the ‘Michel’ and on to the elevated St. Pauli harbour promenade with its stunning views of the Elbe. Passing through the futuristic ‘Park Fiction’, we reach the ‘Altonaer Balkon’ with its idyllic harbour setting. The route continues along the Elbe, opposite the modern container terminals on the banks of the river, to the Oevelgönne Museum Harbour. Passing through the ‘string of pearls’ that is the current Altonaer Große Elbstraße with its cruise terminal, the tour takes you via Holzhafen and the fish market, and through the historic Old Elbe Tunnel with views of Hamburg from Steinwerder. Enjoy the panoramic view with a refreshing drink, a fish sandwich or a coffee right in the heart of the shipyard and docklands. Through the Old Elbe Tunnel, the route takes you through Hafen City, Speicherstadt and the Inner Alster back to the bike station.
