Kulturkirche Altona

A place of meeting and connection

Pop, rock, classical music, folk, jazz, poetry slams, (children's) theatre - the Kulturkirche Altona offers a variety of cultural services

Almost everyone in Altona has already seen the imposing church in Max-Brauer-Allee from the outside. But it not only has an impressive exterior, its interior also has some interesting facets.

Parish church St. Johannis - a non-profit cultural organizer

As the Lutheran parish church of St. Johannis (Altona), it has been a house for church services and other parish events since 1873. Since 2011 the Kulturkirche Altona has also been hosting around 20 to 30 events per year itself as part of its own cultural program. The atmosphere is warm and familiar, the atmospheric lighting underlines the beauty of the interior and the present catering ensures that the palate is spoiled with drinks and small snacks.

Culture for everyone

Classical concerts, pop & rock, singer/songwriters, folk and world music, jazz, readings, (children's) theater, poetry slams, cinema - variety awaits visitors to the church, which is heated all year round. In addition to nationally and internationally known greats, up-and-coming artists are also regularly given a stage here.

Since 2013 recognized as a "non-profit" and thus as a promoter of art and culture in Hamburg, the Kulturkirche Altona works non-profit and presents the in-house cultural program despite high quality at comparably low ticket prices. The enjoyment of music, literature, theater, film, and cultural encounters should be accessible and affordable for everyone.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Altona & Ottensen

For strolling, having a coffee, taking a walk or having some delicious food – situated directly at the Elbe and traversed by parks, Altona & Ottensen are considered to be charming and diverse districts with character. Brick walls create a rather rough atmosphere in Altona, while it is lively and colourful in Ottensen.

Hamburgs "Tele-Michel" Television Tower

Outstanding! You can see him from every corner of the city: Hamburg's television tower, or as the inhabitants affectionately call it, the "Tele-Michel". The television tower is one of Hamburg's landmarks and today only serves as a radio tower.

Outstanding German civil engineering Alter Elbtunnel

When the old Elbe Tunnel, also called St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel, opened in 1911, it was a technical sensation. Today, it is a nostalgic and lovingly tended piece of Hamburg history – and has already celebrated its 100th anniversary.
