Experience culture. Poetry Slam in Hamburg

Hamburg stands for art and culture through and through. And over the years, poetry slams have gained a firm place in Hamburg's cultural programme. Those who want to see young lyrical talents have the opportunity to do so in Hamburg almost every week. The young poet scene meets here regularly on stage to compete and inspire the audience. And with the "artistic duels", the city even has its own unofficial championship. Here, you'll find an overview of current events and the most frequent venues.

    & JULIA - Das Musical

What would happen if Juliet was given a second chance at life and love after Romeo's death? This question is answered by the turbulent musical & JULIA in Hamburg, which heralds the beginning of a fast-paced and colorful comedy in which the 16th century meets pop culture. After Romeo's death, Juliet makes the decision to leave the drama in Verona behind and flee to Paris. Here she encounters new adventures, challenges and is given a second chance to take control of her destiny.

Among the 24 number 1 pop hits that are heard in their original English version in this musical comedy are, for example, Katy Perry's "Roar", Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" and "Perfect" by P!nk . Experience Julia's captivating story in a completely new dimension - an unforgettable spectacle that you shouldn't miss!

    10 Jahre Bundesärztephilharmonie

To mark its 10th anniversary, the Bundesärztephilharmonie is presenting an appropriately magnificent work: Gustav Mahler’s 9th Symphony. Often described as enigmatic, it is one of the composer’s masterpieces. Contemporaries such as Arnold Schönberg and Alban Berg admired Mahler for his innovative and progressive compositions, in which themes such as the transition from earthly to heavenly life and the end of the world play a central role. At the same time, Mahler’s last symphony pointed the way to a new era of music and thus to the future. Alban Berg, who attended the premiere in Vienna in 1912, wrote in a letter to his wife after the premiere that Mahler’s Ninth was »the expression of an unheard-of love for this earth, the longing to live in peace on it [...]«.

The reference to our current times is obvious, in which we are once again consciously learning to understand that peace cannot be taken for granted and is a precious commodity that must be preserved for the »future of our children«. The concert by the Bundesärztephilharmonie is also dedicated to this: the proceeds from the concert will go to the »Hamburger Abendblatt hilft« association, which supports pupils with learning difficulties, among other things. It currently supports 80 children and young people with individual and small group support.

    11. Kammermusikfest »Zauber der Stimmen«

What an unusual start to the season for the Hamburg Association of Friends of Chamber Music: instead of instruments, the human voice will take centre stage at this magnificent festival. The »Instrument of the Year 2025« will be celebrated! Top representatives of the soprano, baritone, a capella and large choir genres have been invited. There will also be instrumental accompaniment from an accomplished piano accompanist and – essential after all – a renowned piano trio of international standing. They present a unique evening of heart-warming lieder, artistic duets, Beethoven’s and Schubert’s chamber music with voice, plus marvellous a capella contributions from the Baltic region and Brahms’ choral music, which flows so wonderfully.

"On the lookout for the wall"

Three perception walks in the here and now of the historic ramparts.

We start with attentive walking and undirected listening. We walk and stroll between former walls and ditches. We prick up our ears, follow our noses and see the world through different eyes. We let ourselves be touched by sounds and smells, stretch out our feelers and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of today's park. Can you feel the former walls? What moods do we experience? Whether artistic, researching or as a sensual experience - walking itself is a dialogue with space and time. The walks each take 2 hours and cost 8 euros per person.
