Prepare to be swept away in a fusion of wild rhythms, intoxicating sounds, jazz and folklore with two exhilaratingly expressive works by avant-garde Russian artists. Composed in America by Prokofiev and in Paris by Stravinsky these trailblazing masterpieces are performed in Hamburg by the Vienna Philharmonic together with the young Austrian star pianist Lukas Sternath. Undaunted by the fact that Prokofiev reputedly had such huge hands that he could effortlessly play even the most difficult passages of his own piano compositions, 24-year-old Lukas has willingly taken on the technical challenges of Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto. With its positive energy and elements of jazz, it is clearly influenced by the composer’s short exile in America. Stravinsky preferred life in Paris where his »Petruschka« was first performed in 1911 by the famous Ballets Russes in vibrant contrast to the strictly grand and classical style of the Bolshoi Ballet.

Discount for all under 30: Exclusively for this concert, anyone under 30 can book the REDticket. This means that even the best available seats only cost € 12. Proof of age must be shown when attending the concert, otherwise the difference to the original price will have to be paid.
