On Christmas Day, the magnificent Laeiszhalle is traditionally transformed into a venue for festive sounds. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the festive season, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra invites you to enjoy a stimulating and contemplative concert in an intimate atmosphere, featuring works from the Baroque to the late Romantic period that radiate warmth, splendor, and poetry.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Three Violins in D major opens the program – a dazzling masterpiece that shines like a musical gift with its lively dialogue between the solo voices. Josef Suk’s heartfelt Serenade for Strings then unfolds its romantic magic: music full of youthful lyrical freshness and delicate warmth, not in the least solemn or pathetic, yet perfect for a festive winter evening. The second part of the concert features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s radiant and opulent »Prague« Symphony. It combines majestic grandeur and operatic drama: a solemn introduction, colorful woodwinds, and a finale full of virtuoso lightness make it the symphonic counterpart to Mozart’s great operas.

As in previous years, the Christmas concert will be conducted by Adrian Iliescu, first concertmaster of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, who will also perform as a soloist in the Bach concerto alongside two other members of the orchestra family. He will guide the audience through a program that pours festive splendor into musical form, cheerful yet deeply moving. An atmospheric concert for young and old alike!
