Founded by Jason Swinscoe and later joined by Dominic Smith, The Cinematic Orchestra has spent two decades redefining the space between jazz and electronica. Since their debut, »Motion«, in 1999 on Ninja Tune, the band has shaped a generation – bridging acoustic instrumentation and modern production, inspiring artists from Floating Points to Kamasi Washington. With a total of four studio albums on Ninja Tune, they have cemented their reputation for lush, cinematic soundscapes, reaching over a billion streams.
Their discography also includes live recordings of their sold-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall and soundtracks for films such as Disney’s moving nature documentary »Crimson Wing« (nominated for Best Score at the Cannes Film Festival). After their last Hamburg concert at the ÜBERJAZZ festival at Kampnagel in 2016, The Cinematic Orchestra now returns to present a new live show with new band members in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall. They will perform a mixture of classic tracks and music from their forthcoming album: expansive suites where jazz breathes, electronics shimmer, and songs unfold on a cinemascopic scale.
