About the piece

Ronja, the daughter of the robber chieftain Mattis, is born on a stormy night—at the very moment lightning strikes Mattis's castle, splitting it in two. Years later, Ronja explores the mysterious Mattis Forest and meets Birk, the son of the rival robber chieftain Borka. A special friendship develops between them. But Mattis forbids Ronja any contact with Birk. In the end, they have only one courageous decision left—they run away and live in Mattis's Forest from then on. Will Ronja and Mattis ever reconcile?
