Richard Galliano brings French lightness to the Elbphilharmonie. The accordionist, one of the most important and influential musicians of his instrument, presents a new version of his acclaimed 1993 album »Viaggio«. This timeless musical journey once marked a turning point in Galliano’s career, helping the accordion achieve new relevance in jazz, classical and world music.
»New Viaggio« – the title sounds like a distant echo and at the same time represents a return to the sound world of an iconic album. »When I rediscovered the recordings from the studio sessions, I felt a deep emotion – a mixture of joy and nostalgia,« says Galliano. The rediscovered alternative takes document the creative dynamics and subtle interplay of those sessions, which now appear in a new light.
The result is an expanded version of »Viaggio«, enriched by previously unreleased recordings – a living »work in progress« that continues the idea of New Musette: music rooted in French dance music and brought into the present with jazz influences.
