QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1st to 31st, 2026 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events within the festival will bring the history (and stories) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome – Kings, Quings, Queens, Allies, Friends, (chosen) Families, and everyone in between and beyond!
Event
The tour presents the biographies of queer Jewish people who were deported from Hamburg to ghettos and concentration camps at the memorial site denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof.
Queer victims of the Holocaust were long a void in remembrance and research. Under National Socialism, they were often subjected to double persecution. Later, their stories were ignored and unheard, their queer identities rendered invisible. At the memorial site denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof, this walking tour presents the biographies of queer Jewish people who were deported from Hamburg to ghettos and concentration camps.
What sources tell us about queer Jewish people under National Socialism? Who spoke about their own queer identity, when, and how?
