Open Monument Day: The Speck-Grund at the Hardau spring – Excavations and research on the "Im Schoot" assembly place. Excursions & Hikes

The historic assembly place of the Estates of the Duchy of Lüneburg was located in the "Schoot" near Hösseringen. However, the square now known as "Landtagsplatz" (State Parliament Square) next to the Hösseringen Agricultural Museum is certainly not the actual site of these assemblies. New research suggests that it may have been located at the Hardau spring. On the occasion of the Open Monument Day, city and district archaeologist Dr. Mathias Hensch will present current research on the assembly place, outline ongoing archaeological excavations at the site, and provide insights into the archaeological, topographical, and historical context of prehistoric, medieval, and early modern assembly places.
