British saxophonist Jess Gillam exudes talent, charm, energy and a deep musical sensibility. The Süddeutsche Zeitung raves: »Everything about her tone is pure sound, ideal weighting and phrasing, clarity. At the age of 17, Gillam won the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and two years later caused a sensation at the legendary Last Night of the Proms as the youngest soloist in the history of the format. She is now one of the most exciting musical personalities of her generation, the only saxophonist with an exclusive contract with Decca, and inspires a wide audience with her own radio programmes on the BBC. After acclaimed concerts at the SHMF last year, Jess Gillam now returns to Schleswig-Holstein – this time with a seven-piece ensemble. Together, the musicians present a fascinating programme that combines a wide variety of musical eras and styles. Gillam demonstrates the enormous range of the instrument developed by Adolphe Sax and invites the audience to immerse themselves in a world of sound rich in nuance and emotional expressiveness.
