»After the second encore, everyone was on their feet,« declared a major Hamburg newspaper in a report on pianist Hayato Sumino’s phenomenal first performance in the smaller of the two concert halls at the Elbphilharmonie. This remarkable artist was immediately invited to come back and play in the large concert hall. Born in Japan, Sumino is a huge star on YouTube under his pseudonym »Cateen«. Some 1.5 million delighted fans follow music videos of him playing his own emotionally powerful compositions as well as spectacular arrangements of famous classical pieces such as Ravel’s Boléro. Although he has always played classical repertoire and successfully taken part in various piano competitions, he only recently decided to become a professional pianist. It was a good decision. He is now touring internationally and has recorded his first album for Sony Classical. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
