The shepherds were the first to learn of the birth of the infant Jesus on Christmas Eve – and in memory of this, they travelled to Italian cities for centuries with their bagpipes and shawms at Christmas to make music and pray. Recorder virtuoso Dorothee Oberlinger combines this tradition with the most beautiful Christmas Baroque music, complemented by Matthias Brandt’s fitting narratives to create a colourful, refreshingly kitsch-free Christmas tableau.
