The poet's almost profound work (from which the cellar theater's production, however, extracts several lighthearted notes) is considered world literature.
Many passages speak directly to our hearts. Who will ever forget the encounter with the fox when he says, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye," and "You are responsible, forever, for what you have tamed."
Perhaps that's the central message: trust and truthfulness. It's no wonder that the Little Prince, the fox, and the other characters are repeatedly used metaphorically to sharpen our perceptions.
We probably mostly only see the surface of things, and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wants to direct our attention to what is essential. In any case, we are beginning to suspect that The Little Prince is not just entertaining and edifying.
