Natural history walk through the Becklinger Moor

Join certified nature and landscape guide Simone Groothuis for a nature walk through part of the 4,500-year-old raised bog.

Experience and feel this sensitive landscape with its unique flora and fauna. Ms. Groothuis will vividly and experientially explain how the moor was used in the past and why moor conservation is so important today.

In 1985, the Great Moor near Becklingen was declared a nature reserve.
Unfortunately, large areas of the moor had been drained and cultivated for agricultural use in the past. Renaturation measures through rewetting began in 2006. Today, many rare plants, such as round-leaved sundew and rosemary heath, can be discovered.

Climb the Heinrich Eggers observation tower, built in 2013, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the moorland. Be enchanted by the diverse birdlife, including cranes, marsh harriers, red kites, and white-tailed eagles.

Weather-appropriate clothing and waterproof shoes are recommended.
