What happens when music makes death, grief and triumph tangible at the same time? When notes ask questions that no words can answer. Then you are right in the middle of it: in the cosmos of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Requiem is Mozart’s legacy – dramatic and unfinished, because the Requiem in D minor became Mozart’s own requiem, as he fell seriously ill while composing the commissioned work and died in December 1791. The requiem mass, written in D minor, a rare key for Mozart, is nevertheless one of his best-known and most popular compositions. It deals with religion and the big questions of life. Unlike in earlier compositions, the focus is not on solo virtuosity, but on a four-part choir. Even the quartet of soloists usually performs as an ensemble.
