This large-scale participatory art project brings together people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds from Hamburg and the surrounding region. The poetic event explores the power of the body: a sea of people moving forward through the meditative act of walking and running together, supporting and accompanying one another, lying down, rebelling, and rising again. "A Human Song" is inspired by wandering without a destination. Starting with a single spatial movement, a wave of people moves from one end to the other and then begins again—in an individual and collective circular motion. A choreographic score brings together artists and local communities to share paths of collective creation. The performance aims to initiate processes for the formation of temporary communities to support one another and be inclusive.
Chiara Frigo, choreographer and performer, is a co-founder of the Zebra Cultural Zoo. Her artistic interests lie in dance and the performing arts. After graduating with a degree in molecular biology, she participated in international research projects and collaborated with SNDO in Amsterdam, the Dance Centre in Vancouver, The Place in London, Dansateliers in Rotterdam, Dansescenen in Copenhagen, and Paso a 2-Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid. In 2010, she began collaborating with the Circuit Est Choreographic Centre in Montreal, where she has since been a guest production resident. Her piece "Himalaya" marked the beginning of her research into themes related to spirituality in art. "Blackbird," a collaborative project, is inspired by art as a form of activism and as a form of collective artistic creation.
The performance is made possible with the kind support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Direzione generale Spettacolo, and with the support of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Hamburg.
