The Stage Operettenhaus is located on Spielbudenplatz directly on the famous Reeperbahn and offers musical enjoyment in the unique atmosphere of the Hamburg district.

For over 150 years, the Operettenhaus on Spielbudenplatz has been an attractive place to go for locals and visitors alike. Founded as "Circus Gymnasticus" with 3,000 seats in 1840 and renamed as "Centralhalle" in 1864 and "Operettenhaus" in 1920, its international programme was already entertaining the hordes of spectators in St. Pauli by the turn of the century. After the Operettenhaus was virtually completely gutted by the nights of bombing which struck Hamburg in 1943, it enjoyed a new lease of life as a new building on the same site. From that point on it staged operettas, guest theatrical performances, revue shows and the first musicals.

Musicals at Stage Operettenhaus

The venue can look back at a long history of theatre shows and musicals. Numerous musical classics such as "Mamma mia!", "Sister Act" or "Kinky Boots" have already been performed under the roof of the architectural work of art. The action-loaded musical "Rocky" offered unique entertainment to music enthusiasts between 2012 and 2015 and was replaced "LOVE NEVER DIES - Phantom II", which is a sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webbers celebrated classic "The Phantom of the Opera". Since spring 2026, BACK TO THE FUTURE – The Musical has been enchanting audiences here. The musical reimagines the cult film of the 1980s and presents hits from the blockbuster film such as Power of Love (Huey Lewis & The News) and many more.
