As Europe's first club space with excellent acoustics for classical music, the resonanzraum has been a lively hotspot of new ideas for young and urban listeners since 2014. In the middle of St. Pauli, between the cathedral and Millerntor stadium, in the direct neighbourhood of clubs such as ‘Uebel und Gefährlich’ and the radio station ‘Byte FM’, cultural life pulsates here.

The resonanzraum was designed by the team led by Prof Friedrich (pfp architekten). The room is characterised by its revolving iron gates, the open concrete walls and the large bar. The lighting concept, which was designed specifically for the room by Heinz Kasper, is also part of its artistic design.

The resonanzraum is the home and experimental field of Ensemble Resonanz, one of the best chamber orchestras in the world, which connects its work here with the people and the pulse of the city. In dialogue with DJs and producers from the Hamburg club scene, the monthly concert series ‘urban string’ shows new ways for classical music culture.

The resonanzraum St. Pauli offers numerous internationally active artists and event organisers an ideal stage for new formats and unconventional programmes. The space fills a gap in Hamburg's cultural landscape and offers a new classical music audience a home. Classical music, clubs, concerts - since 2014 in the Bunker on St. Pauli.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Sternschanze & Karoviertel

The two districts around Schanzenstraße and Schulterblatt are always in motion. Here, it is colourful and lively, and it has become much fancier in the last few years. Still, the district in the borough of Altona has preserved much of its rough, leftist-alternative nonconformism.

Thalia Gaussstrasse

The Gaußstraße is an annexe of the Thalia Theatre and at the same time district theatre of Hamburg Altona – open to all from Greater Hamburg, but with a strong connection to the creative melting pot Altona consisting of workers, members of the middle class and an increasingly intercultural society.
