The Alsterpark is one of Hamburg's most popular local recreation areas and extends around the Außenalster. Strictly speaking, however, Alsterpark only refers to the section on the west side of the Außenalster. Walking, cycling or just lazing around: The Alsterpark is and remains one of the most popular green spaces in Hamburg - also due to its magnificent panoramic view of the Alster.

The recreation area in Winterhude has remained Hamburg's green oasis and a people's park in keeping with the ideas of its founders. In summer, the Stadtpark lake becomes an open-air swimming pool - and apart from that, pedal boats and rowing boats are also available. If this is too exhausting for you, you can also steer your model boat over the pond of the same name. On beautiful weekends, more than 200,000 visitors are often drawn here to take advantage of the wide range of leisure activities on offer and to get some sports in, grill, make music or simply relax.

The huge lake in the middle of the city centre has always been a meeting point for tourists, but also for long-established Hamburg residents. No wonder: The view over the lake with its steamers and sailors never gets boring, even after the hundredth time. On the left and right foreshores of the Alster there are remarkable sculptures. A tour of the Außenalster takes you past many of them and offers a beautiful silhouette of Hamburg and great view of water sports on the Alster. Summers can offer the most beautiful sunsets from the east side of the Alster. Here, you'll find the popular Alsterwiesen Schwanewik and the Park Schöne Aussicht, which more than lives up to its name - "beautiful view".

The Marco Polo Terraces are a central meeting point in the heart of HafenCity. In addition to seating and green areas, they offer an impressive view of the scenery around the Grasbrook harbour. From here you can not only relax and enjoy, but also watch the hustle and bustle in Hamburg harbour and HafenCity.

The Magellan Terraces are laid out in large stepped levels that sometimes disappear depending on the water level. Named after the famous sailor and explorer, the square offers a view of Hamburg's first artificial harbour basin, the Sandtorhafen. The museum harbour is home to a large number of historic ships and is an ideal place to take a breather and escape from the stress of everyday life.

Especially on the weekend, families, couples and groups seeking peace and quiet often spend the whole day in the company of the Elbe, cavorting on the beautiful Waterkant. Who can blame them? Wittenbergen is so popular because it reveals a completely different side of Hamburg than is often seen. But the magnificent view of the Elbe has a strong competitor that is almost too beautiful to be true: The lighthouse Wittenbergen - almost a cliché in this environment.

This park in Othmarschen offers visitors not only beautiful hills and meadows, old maple, chestnut and oak trees and a small brook, but also the Jenisch-Haus and Ernst Barlach Museum. There are also numerous restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the park. Furthermore, one can also walk back to Oevelgönne along the Elbe. In addition to the many interesting sights in Hamburg, visitors should also take a side trip to Jenischpark, relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. An excursion with a steamer on the Elbe can also be combined with a relaxing walk through the park.

Located directly on the Binnenalster, the Jungfernsieg invites you to linger. In addition to many opportunities to sit down, you can also set off directly from here for a relaxing Alster round trip. To the east and west of the Jungfernstieg you can walk directly along the Binnenalster, which you won't regret. The Lombardsbrücke bridge offers probably the most beautiful view of the Jungfernstieg itself. Especially at dusk and after dark, the Hamburg scenery along the Binnenalster could not be more beautiful!

Lohsepark in HafenCity offers plenty of space for play, sports and relaxation. Large swings, an adventure playground and fruit trees make it particularly family-friendly. Nearby, you’ll find the Oberhafen district as well as areas for skating and playing basketball.

Park Fiction on the Elbe is a creative oasis in the middle of Hamburg that was created by a neighbourhood initiative. Here you can enjoy the sun under palm trees (made of plastic) and take in the view of the Elbe and Hamburg harbour. The park also has a basketball court where you can play sports and is close to the Reeperbahn, Hans-Albers-Platz and the Landungsbrücken.
